JCHLA (as well as its predecessor BMC) is indexed in Library and Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA) and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). JCHLA is also indexed in Informed Librarian Online.

Beginning with Volume 29(4), JCHLA will be covered in the Directory of Open Access Journals. Additionally, indexing in Library and Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA) Full Text and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) Full Text will begin with Volume 30.
